Hi Can anyone help or advise roof on Mirage
« on: March 02, 2016, 02:22:34 PM »
Hi there,

Hope all is well with everyone,  as you may or may not remember I am the new owner of Mirage Im slowly getting her fiitted out but I have a problem.
Taken the original roof panels down which had warped and replaced them with purchased hardboard that has a rippled coating on one side. The trouble
is now I fitted them into the boat condensation has caused brown stains to come through. I did insulate the roof but stuck the insulation on the
hardboard and not the roof, Any ideas how to stop this and if this is where Ive gone wrong

Hi Stuart,
Thanks for getting in touch, I'm not sure what is causing your problem, do you think the moisture is coming from the roof above the hardboard or from inside the boat. and what kind of insulation have you used?
bye for now
Neil..

Hi

I think the moisture is coming from the fibreglass did tape some silver backed foam onto the roof panel but maybe will have to insulate better as you say.
It was a bugger to fit so will probably take it down.
Have been on  You tube to see what other boats are doing will take some fotos this weekend and use photobucket to post, as I had problems with the
size of the fotos trying yesterday
Cheers Stu

Hi Stuart, I looked at all the roof linings including carpet, foam backed pvc, “masonite” (like hardboard) etc but took a radical step and lined the roof with 10mm plastic tongue and groove (hollow soffit board), it has an air gap so it insulates and is wipe clean I also used the hollow section as a conduit to route the wires from back to front.
I had the drawback (or advantage ?) that my Caraboat was just an empty shell, look at the photo’s here

Yes that looks brilliant, we have something like that in the bathroom what a fantastic idea thank you very much sounds just the ticket.
Wipe clean too, thank you will be doing the same

Just one quick question do you get much condensation on the roof using this ?

All the very best
Stuart

Will post photos this weekend when I finish work.

And should have said hollow sofit board comes in 5m x 300mm boards and are about half the price of the bathroom paneling  8)

Thank you,

Still things to be done, There was more work than we thought, we used an old 1970s caravan for the interior as the original kitchen that was left had been chopped about and was is an unusable state.
Ive still kept those items for reference although some parts had wood worm new chassis, adjustable outboard motor bracket.
It has a shower and mains electricity
Hopefully it should have a trip on the water this year all being well

Thanks again for all your help

Hi Stuart,
Wow what a great job you are doing, I really like the fit out, like the ladder up to the roof and the adjustable engine bracket,
hydraulic brakes and a shower, hope you get out on the water soon,
well done,
Neil...

Hi Stuart,
Just to add we have never had any Condensation on the roof even when we had no roof lining at all, but do tend to get it on the windows when using the boat especially  in wet weather.
all the best
Neil..

Oh hello Victor

I am so proud and honoured that you have contacted us and are happy with how she looks today. She was in a very unhappy state and we are looking forward to getting her back in the water.
We have tried to keep as many of the original bits that we could but alas there wasnt much to be honest.  She is fitted out with a 1970s caravan interior which we felt would be in tune with her age.

We loved her then and love her now so pleased we have her, do keep in touch would love to see the ITV Central  Televsion clip of her if you have that, we do have some paperwork too.

All the very best, please do stay in touch and maybe if we are  near you you would like a trip out with us,

Take care
Stuart and Pam Mann
